Reading Across Genres IV

I haven't really ventured into the paranormal romances. I think werewolves could be interesting (probably because my first crush was on Wolverine, a Very Hairy Guy with sharp claws and keen animal senses). On the other hand, vampires don't do much for me; they just seem like the kind of guys who like to drink martinis in their tuxes, very James Bond, and therefore not my type. Plus, they are only awake at night, and I hit the pillow (to SLEEP, people!) almost as soon as the sun goes down. :)

I'm not sure how I feel about erotica. I've read a few Harlequin Blazes and just couldn't get into the hot-hot-hot thing without a sense of real relationship. I would be open to reading some Ellora's Cave novels, I guess, but it's not a priority for me at the moment.

I also haven't read a lot of Western romances. I like Westerns in general, but have a hard time finding cowboys romantically interesting because I'm a vegan. Seriously, I couldn't fall for a guy who wears leather boots and raises cattle to be eaten. Again, Not My Type.

I haven't really explored SF romance, unless you count a few time travel novels. Ooh, and J. D. Robb's In Death series, which combines SF and romance and mystery and is Wonderful.

Speaking of mysteries, I have a funny thing to share. After outgrowing the Hardy Boys, I never read mysteries because I didn't like how they always started out with a dead body. (The gore wasn't a factor, I just foolishly thought, "they're all the same.") One day, I realized my favorite TV show at the time, Law and Order, always started out with a dead body, too. Since then, I've been devouring mysteries like crazy.
