Movie: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (C, WE)
I haven’t watched most of the movies considered “classics,” but I’m trying to rectify that now. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was a great place to start!
Apparently, this film is based on real-life outlaws. The relationship between the two men is funny and comfortable, and you can tell they really care about each other. The plot is simple: BC and SK are tired of robbing trains and go to South America to try a new robbery scheme. SK’s girlfriend, a schoolmarm looking for some adventure, goes with them on the condition that she won’t watch her sweetheart die. She teaches them Spanish, they rob banks and become famous “Yanqi” outlaws. The ending is both logically and emotionally satisfying. I’ll leave it at that. Grade: A
